Tioga Road Opens This Weekend!!!

Aren't you all excited? C'mon! That's a wonderful news! Haven't you all been just waiting for it to open? No?

OK, OK, I'll explain. Tioga Road (rte.120) cuts through Yosemite allowing for easier access to the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Every spring all Yosemite lovers wait impatiently for it to open because open Tioga road means easier access to higher regions of the Sierras. It does not mean there is no snow on trails but at least one can drive to a trailhead.

I am excited because I will be able to make yet another trip to Yosemite and have a nice training session at higher elevations in the snow. Since I can't go this weekend, I will have to (grudgingly) wait till the next week.
I only hope they will clear some parking bays at trailheads.

Unlike my last Yosemite trip, this one might end up being a true solo adventure since I don't expect to see many hikers in the area. What is more, I am kicking my son and my husband out of the house for a couple of weeks so they can spend some quality (I hope) time together, just the two of them, father and son, while I will spend some quality time by myself. Can't wait.

I know that pass well. Although I have only hiked there a little Glad to hear you are going to get in a hike in the still snowy mountains. Enjoy some alone time. Be safe.

It's so funny to sit here in the 90-degree plus heat and remember that there really is snow still in some parts of the country. I think it's so cool that you are so brave to get out there solo and do all this. I'd probably be a chicken!

I've been to the States once in my life and while I was there I visited Yosemite. It's one of the most beautiful place I've ever been to and it was one of the most memorable parts of my trip. You're so lucky to have regular access to it.

My Dad lives in Bear Valley half of the year. I think that's off of Hwy 4. There is also a pass that they open every year that connects to Yosemite. Such a beautiful area.

Wow, that's SO incredible that you're spending some quality time by yourself. That is so highly recommended by people who do it consistently. I can't wait to hear how it goes!

i like to read your posts, because you tell of an unknown world for me. I live on the sea and the snow is thousands miles far.
Enjoy your mountains.

I love spending time by myself - today I took the day off - primarily because the electrician was comming - but I enjoyed a nice 6 mile run this morning and am now headed out for a 35 mile bike ride. Great way to spend a day of vacation. Plus hubby is on his way to Canada for a week of fishing with his brother. ;-)

Sounds like a wonderful time!
