Decision made (I must be nuts)

OK, it is official. I AM nuts.

Yesterday registered for CIM. Yes, I know, it is a road race but I have a bone to pick with this specific marathon. A couple of years ago I was going to run this race on my birthday. I thought then it would make a perfect birthday present. Well, guess what, no present, only a rush trip to Poland. So while this year it does not fall on my b-day, I think it still owes me a birthday gift and a darn good one. Don't you agree?
Originally I was thinking of focusing on trail running but when a friend suggested CIM, I jumped on the idea. OK, it took me a while (a whole half an hour :)  ) to decide.

My biggest concern is that I have only 12 weeks to train. I guess I will have to be smart about it and pray to my Achilles tendon, who likes to remind me ever so often that it is still there and is holding some kind of a grudge against me, that it behaves.
Any training suggestions? I can use all the help I can get.

So now this just might become a running blog again. I will be boring you with my running stats, fueling mishaps, and reports on aches and pains. I bet you just can't wait.

In the future I am very tempted to do Skyline to the Sea 50k (another friend's recommendation). I backpacked this trail in both directions a few times and I love it. They used to hold this race in September but then, I guess, the organizers decided that it was not challenging enough so they moved it to April, which can be still quite wet here making the trail in some places impassable. Fun!

And then is this sounds like a blast but the entry fee is... $400!!! If I start saving now, I might consider entering the lottery next September. Or maybe not. FOUR HUNDRED US DOLLARS! Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit high? I must be since there is enough interest in this race to actually hold a lottery. So if I put away $1.1 a day... tempting, isn't it?

Please, keep your fingers crossed that this time I do not have to rush off to Poland just before the marathon yet again. If I do, I will blame all of you who had suggested I try to break the curse.

But thank you so much for all your recommendations.

Let the training begin.

You are friggin awesome!!!!

I thinyou mayay have read about the Hoka One One shoes I wear now that have helped me back to exercise. I know they are not for everyone but maybe they will help yor Achilleses. I know lots of trail runners wear them but so do road people. I would not be exercising if not for that running shoe. I use for weight training too due to my poor feet. I wish they made every day shoes with is technology!

I'm so excited for you! With any luck I will be at the finish line when you come in! I'm doing CIM relay (not sure what leg yet) - and my little guy is doing the Marafun run. - It is always the weekend of my birthday as well (this year my birthday is the Saturday before) You will have to let me know what bib number you are and what you are wearing!

OOOO, I LOVE CIM and was considering that when I thought I'd better push back my marathon due to the fact I'm severely out of shape. You are going to conquer that beast once and for it, it DOES owe you a bday present!! Cannot wait to follow your 12-week journey...and please email me if you need help mastering a plan, marathon plans are my speciality :). I'm really thrilled about S2S and hope that pans out, too. And holy cow, $400 is crazy nuts but my gosh that race looks AWESOME! I'm sure I'd be crazy enough to pay that also. Haha.

Happy Training, yay!

$400 for a running event?!! Do they have valet service at the water stops and only serve Perrier? That's pretty steep.

$400 is crazy for an event (say someone who spent $575 on one).

Yea, CIM. You got this. Can't wait to read the story of the 12 weeks.

Wow, a road marathon, eh? I've never done one. I did do Skyline to the Sea though. I think the reason they moved it was because of the terrible bee problem in September. I could be wrong though. It's a great 50k. You should do it.

Fingers and toes crossed!
You should probably be able to get ready in 12 weeks - I always use the Smart Coach training program calculator on the Runners World website (and make a few adjustments here and there!)
Good luck!!
And yes, race fees in the US are very expensive...

This is wonderful Ewa! Your base level of fitness will get you through this. Going onto the road is always a different challenge and I love adding some big road events between all the trails and mountains. Super! The Skyline to the Sea 50k must be awesome.
